Through the Yin Yang project, CENTRALE LYON and EMLYON Business School held on 4 and 5 February the latest session of First Rencontres des Lumières, a multidisciplinary scientific seminar dedicated to sustainable development.
These meetings mobilised students from both schools to aid in the movement towards sustainable development, which is of great importance to them.
The annual seminar aims to raise awareness and educate students to the enlightenment of lessons that can be drawn from the current global crisis in order to better prepare for the future. Since they are the managers of tomorrow, they are the ones who will be called upon to invent innovative solutions and apply their knowledge.
The first day of the Rencontres des Lumières was held on our schools’ campus, while the second day was organised on the CENTRALE LYON campus.
We had the honour on the first day of welcoming two Nobel Peace Prize winners: Jean Jouzel, glaciologist, paleoclimatologist, Vice-Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, recipient of the CNRS gold medal, and co-laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007; and Patrick Criqui, IPCC economist, Director of LEPII CNRS/UPMF Grenoble and co-laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.
In the future, EMLYON Business School and CENTRALE LYON will seek participation from the largest possible number of grandes écoles and universities in Lyon in order to transform this event into a must-attend meeting for scientific education and research. The event also will serve as an effective showcase of the potential of greater Lyon and its surroundings in working toward sustainable development.
